A Milwaukee native, Dr. Terence N. Thomas was a high achiever from the beginning, having an interest in medicine since his early days. He graduated physician with a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology from Michigan State School of Medicine in May 1990.

A Milwaukee native, Thomas was a high achiever from the beginning. His mother said he had an interest in medicine since his early days, and he eventually made it to med school at Michigan State to study.

Losing a loved one

“He had such deep regret that his grandma had not seen any more of what he would do,” Pattillo said. “He made sure that what he had been given was returned to this community.”

a tragic passing

Days after returning home from the funeral, Thomas suffered a fatal asthmatic attack at the age of 29. This scholarship was created to honor his legacy and wishes to give back to his community.

Each year there is tremendous growth in the number of applicants. Unfortunately, due to lack of funds, many qualified candidates are not able to receive the much needed assistance. Working as a joint partner will allow an increase in scholarship recipients.

Since 1996, Over One Million Dollars has been awarded to deserving young people so far. We are happy to report that we have had an average retention rate of  98% annually!

The Dr. Terence N. Thomas Scholarship seeds success by supporting the recipients, while requiring the students to report their grades annually. Our Board of Directors works to ensure that funds are there to sustain these recipients throughout their academic career.
